Four contemporary textile artists, who studied together on the Embroidery Degree at Manchester Metropolitan
University 2001-2004, we push the boundaries of our embroidery
origins. Our approaches to the application of stitch, although all diverse in style, share a mutual
appreciation of natural materials and integrity of design. Form, texture and fabric
manipulation derived from drawing and observation is elemental in the foundations of our practice. Combined
with an awareness of colour and historical context we exhibit within
the ever evolving contemporary textiles world and bring the exciting potential of textiles to a wide
and varied audience.
The name TELA is taken from the Latin word for cloth or fabric and reflects the central and essential
role of textiles in our work
.
